From the electronic, shimmery pop of ‘Cocktails in the Rain’, through to the dark rock of ‘Raise the Alarm’, the delicate folk of 'Nobody Knows' and perhaps their finest moment yet, the epic ‘If The World Ends Now’ this new four track EP was conceived and recorded during lockdown,

The Reverse is a North London guitar band making an urgent and literate style of indie-rock that’s been likened to “Belle and Sebastian meets Pulp meets Lloyd Cole”.

2020 was a strange year for the band. Momentum had been building ahead of the release of their album Which Way Out, when lockdown took hold. Just a few months earlier they’d shared a stage which Warmduscher and IDLES at Standon Calling Festival, supported The Wave Pictures on tour and were receiving regular airplay which led to live sessions for BBC Radio London, Dexter Bentley on Resonance FM and the song ‘Abstract Heart’ making it into DJ Gary Crowley’s top songs of the year.

The album Which Way Out, was released in April 2020 but the band were forced to cancel their launch event, tour dates were put on hold and they found themselves stuck at home.

Frustrated, they began working on songs remotely, recording bits and pieces at home and sending files to each other. In between lockdowns last Summer, they took what they’d recorded into a studio to record with their drummer, Jason, who, as high risk, had up until then, been shielding.

What came out of this new way of working was something that, although recognisable as The Reverse, is unlike anything they have done before. Incorporating electronic textures and more multi-track layering created a sound completely unlike Which Way Out, which was all recorded live to capture the sound of the band playing together.

What the future holds for The Reverse is uncertain. Their guitar player, Sam, has recently moved to Devon and like so many, the group are now questioning what next. So if this EP is the end of a chapter, it captures a moment in time perfectly and contains some of their strongest and most ambitious songs to date.
